Apples and Oranges?
I never understood this "comparing apples and oranges" business. I mean I realize that's what someone will tell you when you're attempting to draw a comparison between two things that are not comparable to one another. But apples and oranges? How different are they really? As you can see from this picture, they're both tasty and yet nutritious round shaped fruits of basically the same size. Now that's pretty damn comparable if you ask me. As a matter of fact, I'd have to say that's about as comparable as two separate items can get. In contrast, take a look at the strawberries. They're much smaller and they're definitely not round. I guess you could call them strawberry shaped for lack of a better term. So I could live with it if people used the term, "comparing apples and strawberries." Of course, as you may know, strawberries are also a red colored fruit and that's a fairly big similarity in and of itself. That's why I've taken it one step further and coined the phrase, "comparing apples and teeny tiny crumpled up pieces of yellow scrap paper." Let's face it, any attempt at drawing a comparison between these two items would be a major stretch to say the least and isn't that really the whole point to begin with?
